Aciclovir is an antiviral drug. It slows the growth and spread of the herpes virus so that the body can fight off the infection. Acyclovir will not cure herpes, but it can lessen the symptoms of the infection. It is used to treat infections caused by herpes viruses. Illnesses caused by herpes viruses include genital herpes, cold sores, shingles, and chicken pox.
Directions
Take each dose constantly, 2 to 5 times daily with a full glass of water with or without food. Shake the oral suspension (liquid) well just before you measure a dose. To be sure you get the correct dose, measure the liquid with a marked measuring spoon or medicine cup.
Precautions
Inform your doctor if you have allergic, kidney illness or if you are pregnant. Also inform about all medicines you take.
Contraindications
The Contraindications are allergic to acyclovir or valacyclovir.
Possible side effect
Get emergency medical help if you have any allergic reaction, eruption, skin tumor, disorder, delusions, bloodletting, dark urine, headache, diarrhea or sickness, yellowing of the eyes or skin, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue, fever.
Drug interactions
There are negative cooperations that can occur when Aciclovir is combined with Phenytoin (Fosphenytoin) and Aciclovir with Probenecid and Tenofovir. Be careful to cooperate this drugs.
Missed dose
Take the missed dose as soon as possible. Skip the missed dose if it is time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose
If you think you have overdosed the medicine seek emergency medical help at once. Overdose symptoms may include convulsion and delusion.
Storage
Store your medicines at room temperature between 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F). Store away from moisture and light. Keep it out of the reach of children and away from pets.
