Anafranil is a tricyclic antidepressant. It affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced.
The drug is used to treat symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) such as recurrent thoughts or feelings and repetitive actions.
Directions
Take this medication exactly as it was prescribed for you. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose to make sure you get the best results from this medication. Avoid drinking alcohol and and grapefruit juice and eating Grapefruit.
Precautions
Do not use this medication if you are allergic to clomipramine or to similar drugs or if you have recently had a heart attack. Don't drive as this medicines that make you sleepy. It may be harmful to an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. Aged people may be more sensitive to the side effects of the drug.
Possible side effect
The medicine may cause giddiness, sickness, retching and some allergic reaction. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual.
Drug intearction
Inform your doctor about all drugs you use. Don't use Anafranil with MAO inhibitors (Furazolidone, Tranylcypromine, Linezolid, etc), anti-arrhythmic medication (Quinidine), Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs), Antipsychotics (Fluphenazine) and H2-receptor antagonists (Cimetidine, Nizatidine, Ranitidine, etc). Avoid drinking grapefruit juice and smoking.
Missed dose
Take the missed dose as soon as possible. Skip the missed dose if it is time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose
Call emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine. Overdose may cause sickness, break heartbeat, chest pain or dizziness.
Storage
Store your medicines at room temperature between 68-77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C). Store away from moisture and light. Keep it out of the reach of children and away from pets.
