Chloromycetin is an ancient antibiotic, that has a lot of serious side effects, that's why you should use it if only you haven't any other drugs, that could substitute it and always during limited period.
It used to treat meningitis, rickettsial disease, salmonellosis and anaerobic infections, bacterial infections of eyes (locally), brain abscess, generalized forms of salmonellosis, typhoid fever, rickettsiosis: Ku-fever, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, typhus, intra-abdominal infections, pelvic infection, gas gangrene, plague as a secondary drug.
Directions
Use Chloromycetin orally with a glass of water, regardless of meals, through equal time periods. Note, that to comply the schedule is very important if you use this medication, so don't miss your doses. If you have a possibility to find some better medication, that is safer and more effective you shouldn't use this drug.

Contraindications
Do not use Chloromycetin if you have allergy to any of its components, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Possible side effect
It is necessary to control blood condition because sometimes Cloromycetin may cause serious, even fatal, blood disorders (for instance, bone marrow hypoplasia, aplastic anemia). It is possible that treatment with antibacterial agents can change the normal flora of the colon and it may cause some intestinal disorders ranging in severity from mild diarrhea to fatal colitis. Also in rare cases is possible gray baby syndrome (in neonates). It involves hypothermia, cyanosis, flaccidity, and circulatory collapse, is often fatal.
Drug interaction
Combination of Chloromycetin with erythromycin or lincosamides is not recommended. Chloromycetin can to diminish effects of medications contained iron, folic acid and B12 vitamin.
Chloromycetin may cause false positive results in glucose tests in patients with diabetes.
Missed dose
Never take more than prescribed dose, even if you missed the one. Try to take it as soon as possible. Or, if it's too late, just skip it and take your usually dose next day in the same regularly time.
Overdose
In case if you think that you could be overdosed by Chloromycetin you should call for medical help immediately. Symptoms of Chloromycetin overdose are following: easy bruising or bleeding, persistent sore throat, fever, or unusual fatigue, headache, mild depression, mental confusion, rashes, angioedema, watery and bloody stools (with or without stomach cramps and fever).
Storage
Store at room temperature between 59-77 degrees F (15-25 degrees C), in a dark and dry place. Save it from children and pets. Watch the expiration date!
