Inderal is a medicine that belongs to the group of so called beta blockers. It is prescribed for treatment of different conditions related to heart and blood vessels such as tremors, chest pain, hypertension, heart rhythm disorders, ischemic heart disease, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, myocardiodystrophy, etc. It works by blocking the action of a chemical called noradrenaline, which is released from nerves in the heart to control its rate and force of beating and another chemical which is a hormone called adrenaline. As a result, Inderal reduces the heart rate and is useful in treating abnormally rapid heart rhythms;the force of heart muscle contraction and lowers blood pressure; the amount of oxygen the heart muscle needs.
Directions
It is recommended to take the medicine as it was prescribed by your doctor. Take it with a full glass of water.
Precautions
It is not recommended to use the medicine if you have heart disease, asthma, liver or kidney failure. Don't drink alcoholic beverages.
Contraindications
The patients with sinus bradycardia, incomplete or complete atrioventricular block, severe right and left ventricular failure, bronchial asthma and a tendency to bronchospasm, pregnancy, disorders of peripheral arterial blood flow can't use Inderal.
Possible side effect
Common side effects can include diarrhea, vomit, nausea, bradycardia, dizziness, allergy, itchy skin, bronchospasm and depression.
Drug interaction
Inderal can interact with alcohol, aluminum, theophylline, lidocaine, phenytoin, phenobarbital, rifampin, cimetidine and chlorpromazine.
Missed dose
Take the missed dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time of the next intake just skip it and go back to your schedule.
Overdose
If you think you have overdosed the medicine seek emergency medical help at once. The overdose symptoms are heartbeats, dizziness, weakness, or fainting.
Storage
Keep the medicine at room temperature away from moisture and sunlight.
