Gabapentin is an anti-epileptic medication, also called an anticonvulsant. It affects chemicals and nerves in the body that are involved in the cause of seizures and some types of pain.
Directions
Neurontin can be taken with or without food with glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break an extended-release tablet. Do not stop taking Neurontin for seizures without first talking to your doctor, even if you feel fine. You may have increased seizures if you stop using Neurontin suddenly. Follow the directions on your prescription label.
Precautions
You should not use Neurontin if you are allergic to gabapentin. Before taking it, inform your doctor if you have kidney, liver, or heart disease. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using this medication. Don't drink alcohol and smoking.
Contraindications
Avoid taking Neurontin if you are allergic to gabapentin.
Possible side effect
This drug may cause eruption, pruritus, headache, nausea, etc. Report any new or worsening symptoms to your doctor.
Drug interaction
Inform your doctor if you'd used any herbal products. The medicine can cooperate with antacids, morphine, naproxen and sevelamer. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for additional information.
Missed dose
Take the missed dose as soon as possible. Skip the missed dose if it is time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Overdose
Inform your doctor if you think you've used much of the drug. Overdose symptoms may include blurred vision, giddiness, nausea, feeling fainting, slurred speech.
Storage
Store your medicines at room temperature between 68-77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C). Store away from moisture and light. Keep it out of the reach of children and away from pets.
